Building Civil Society’s Knowledge on EI Management Problems at the Sub-national Level

Issue: Expert Advice, Grants, Research

Country: Indonesia

Organization: Pattiro

Sub-national districts in Indonesia are handicapped when addressing the social, economic and environmental impacts of mining because they do not receive support from the national government or the mining companies. Pattiro Institute (PI) is using RWI support to research how mining revenues are managed and which social conflicts are caused by mining activities in three resource-rich districts of Indonesia. PI is then convening district stakeholders to discuss how the governance problems it identified can be mitigated. Pattiro Institute builds the capacity of local government and oversight bodies to find effective ways to use natural resource revenues.
