Workshop: The Role of Civil Society in Corporate Social Responsibility in Ecuador

Issue: Training

Country: Ecuador

CARE Ecuador, the Inter-American Development Bank and the Ecuadorian Consortium for Social Responsibility hosted their first International Conference on "The Role of Civil Society in Promoting Corporate Social Responsibility" in Quito, Ecuador, September 20-21, 2007. The aim of the workshop was to develop, document, and promote innovative practices of engagement between the private sector, the government and civil society in order to address issues of poverty, power inequality, and accountability.

The conference focused on the following topics: developing a vision for good governance and corporate social responsibility; sharing best practices on the relationship between NGOs and the private sector; discussing the role of consumers, the media, and civil society in generating a culture of social responsibility, and promoting transparency. RWI hopes the debate helps identify priorities for future work around these issues internationally and in Ecuador and the surrounding region more specifically.
