The Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI) is an independent, non-profit policy institute that promotes responsible management of oil, gas and mineral resources for the public good. Too often natural resource wealth results in corruption and poverty, instead of growth and development. With effective revenue management, citizen engagement and government accountability, natural resource wealth can drive economic growth and development. NRGI provides the expertise, funding and technical assistance to help countries realize these benefits. Please visit our website for more information:

The Natural Resource Governance Institute is seeking a graduate student or qualified recent graduate to gather data on information contained in the annual reports of national oil companies throughout the world. National oil companies play a crucial role in determining how much a country benefits from its oil wealth, and governments and civil society groups in various regions are seeking ways to encourage these companies to manage public resources effectively. NRGI is researching fiscal flows between National Oil Companies and their governments, and aims to gather more comprehensive information on global practice. The organization is seeking part-time research support to build a quantitative database of global practice. The project is being managed by NRGI's Legal and Economic team.

  • Supporting the compilation and analysis of the data, the development of tables and cross-country comparisons;

  • Supporting NRGI's efforts to make use of the data on National Oil Company (NOC) financing and performance in order to develop analysis of the practice of NOC governance.

  • Graduate student or recent graduate in relevant field (business, economics, accounting, law, or international development);

  • Familiarity with the challenges associated with the management of the oil and gas sector;
