The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - Lessons Learned from the Implementation of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative in Liberia

In May 2007, Liberia made its official statements in support of the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI) process, becoming the 22nd EITI Candidate Country and the second Candidate Country to achieve EITI Compliant Status. This report provides a background on, and assessment of, Liberia's experience with implementing EITI, and identifies major lessons learned through this process, which emphasize the importance of national ownership, capacity-building for key stakeholders, and the critical value of full civil society participation in EITI processes.
